About

OSMA

The Ontario Shelter Medicine Association is an association of veterinary medical professionals working in animal shelters, involved with animal shelters or rescues, or with an interest in sheltering. Membership is open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary and technician students. Members do not have to be based in Ontario or Canada.

We aim to promote networking among shelter medicine professionals, work co-operatively with other sheltering and veterinary organizations, and work towards a national shelter medicine organization for Canada.

OSMA is a registered not-for-profit corporation.

Immediate Goals

  • Promote networking, mutual assistance and communication among shelter veterinarians and veterinary technicians
  • Promote humane sheltering through promotion of the ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care
  • Work to increase exposure of veterinary and veterinary technician students to shelter medicine, and provide education and resources for veterinarians and technicians working with shelter animals
